Renting a space may mean that your ability to make upgrades is limited, but a little creativity can go a long way! With a few simple hacks, it’s totally possible to alter someone else’s space to best fit your personality, no paint required.

Display art

Art is a simple way to display your personal style without taking up too much space, and it is decor that you can easily take with you when you leave. Create a sense of continuity with neutrals throughout the home, or add a pop of color with an accent piece or two.

Incorporate rugs

Placing a rug in each room is not only a great way to add warmth and personality to a space, they also are a great sound saver!

Use warm lighting

Switch out harsh lighting with warmer lightbulbs to add coziness. Especially with bedroom and living room lamps, this simple task can make a big difference!

Invest

Purchase a couple of quality pieces that you can move from place to place. If space is limited, opt for accessories rather than large furniture, such as lamps and side tables, so that the scale will work in a future home. Since you aren’t spending a lot of money on repairs and home upgrades at this point, it is a great season to invest in a few pieces that you can take with you when you go.

Add an ottoman

Ottomans provide extra seating for guests, are compact and portable, and easily moved from place to place. Plus it’s another way to add fun fabrics and colors at a small cost.

Utilize shelving

Add character with styled shelves – create dimension with books, framed artwork, vases, and whatever else is on hand. This is a great way to show off decor that is unique to you without taking up a ton of space.

Houseplants

Greenery is not only a great way to freshen up a space, but also helps purify the air. If you aren’t confident in keeping a houseplant or succulent alive, pick up some flowers from a local farmer’s market or neighborhood flower shop on occasion!
