Best Ways to Ensure Deposit Back
One of the most common questions we get is: How can I ensure I get my deposit back? A clean home with no holes in the walls or signs of pets is no. 1! But there’s a bit more you can do… here are a few tips on how you can make sure to get your security deposit back in full.
1. Conduct a walk-through
After signing your lease, make sure to walk through and inspect the space for any pre-existing damages. Make sure to get these details noted by the landlord so you won’t get charged for them after leaving the apartment when the lease ends.
2. Give your move-out notice in writing
And in a timely manner! Refer to your lease for best practices
3. repair all damages
When moving out, fix any damages. This includes patching holes left from nails or screws and painting over them. If you’re in need of a paint color or have any questions, contact us! We also recommend taking photos before you move out to document the state in which you left it.
4. Deep clean
Leaving a sparkly clean home when you move out is one of the best ways to ensure your deposit gets back to you! If this sounds a little out of your scope, hire a local cleaning company to make sure it’s spotless!
5. take all belongings and return the keys
Make sure you remove everything in the apartment including any food, garbage, or cleaning supplies. Also make sure to return all of your keys to the landlord once you are done moving everything out.
6. Leave a forwarding address
Be sure to give your landlord your new address so they are able to contact you in order to return your deposit along with the itemized deductions list.
