Beating the Social Distancing Blues

Feeling cooped up and know you have a long road ahead of you? These last few days have certainly been a disruption to everyone’s routines and rhythms. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite things to do when staying in – hopefully they provide some inspiration for you!

Learn + Create

It’s sometimes hard to learn how to be a self-starter when it comes to hobbies and personal growth. Especially when normal routines are off, it can be even more difficult to find a healthy rhythm. Try choosing just one thing to spend some time on each day – it can be a lifesaver when needing a mental break (hint: nothing has to be massive or hard to complete. Don’t take it too seriously).

-Complete a puzzle. Really, it can be more fun than it sounds! ;)

-Create a vision board or mood board out of old magazines and catalogues

-Paint something – even if it’s just simple shapes and colors!

-Use epsom salt and essential oils to create a bath soak

-Plant some flowers or succulents for your porch or in your home

-Find a short yoga class online to complete

-Write a letter to loved ones. Especially elderly relatives that might be getting even less interaction than you right now!

-Plan a future vacation or day trip to give yourself something to look forward to

-Enroll in an online class to learn a new skill. Whether it relates to your work, is a new hobby, or is just a topic you’re interested in, there are so many resources for learning at little or no cost!

Delicious Recipes + Drinks

Use this time to brush up on your kitchen skills. Eating healthy, whole foods is key to balancing mental health through such a drastic disruption in routine. My personal mission is to perfect my fried rice recipe! Here are a few other favorites…

Breakfast: This egg, brussel sprout and bacon sheet pan is so easy to throw together. We make it for dinner all the time, too!

Dinner: Nothing makes you want to stay home like a giant pot roast and a side of potatoes. This one has a french onion twist, and you can make it in a dutch oven if crockpot meals aren’t your thing!

Dessert: Simple, nourishing honey strawberry muffins that are the perfect cure to your sweet tooth.

Drinks: Try your hand at a new cocktail! You can never go wrong with a margarita – especially this spicy mango margarita.

Organization + Cleaning

Okay, okay, we know that not everyone is dying to get a head start on spring cleaning. But if you’re feeling stir crazy, here are some great places to focus your energy!

-Cleaning out the garage or shed (hello there, months of dead leaves and amazon boxes!)

-Steaming and cleaning overlooked fabrics like couches, rugs, and drapes

-Washing comforters and blankets

-Organizing the pantry and food cupboards

-Cleaning out closets and preparing for the season shift

Everything is temporary. Waving hello from afar!
