Changing Air-Filters: How-To
One of the most common complaints we get from renters is that the air flow or quality has lessened in their home. The most common issue we find is that your air filter hasn’t been replaced. Maintaining a clean air filter can keep your energy costs down and reduce the risk of mold or bacteria growing in your air system.
This is a super easy task you can complete yourself. – Read on for a simple tutorial on how to change your filters!
Install a new filter at least every 3 months when it’s in frequent use. Even if your filter doesn’t look particularly dirty, it should be changed at least every 3 months when it’s being used regularly. Air conditioners should have new filters every 3 months in the summer, and the same goes for furnace filters in the winter.
Change your filter anytime it looks dirty, damp or moldy. No matter when you changed it last, you should always get a new filter if your current one appears dirty or damp, or if it seems to be growing mold. If you hold your air filter up to a light, you should be able to see through it easily. If not, it should be changed immediately.
Set a reminder. Check your filter at least once a month when it’s being used often, and change the filter at least every 3 months. We set a recurring reminder in our calendar every 90 days so we don’t forget!
To install a new filter:
Open return vent (there might be more than 1 in your home, replace all filters on the same day).
Remove old air filter
Install new filter, making sure to situate it so that the “air flow” arrows along the side are pointed up.
That’s it! Your Tarron rental should come equipped with the right size and brand air filters needed, but if you have any questions regarding where they might be stored or where your return is, don’t hesitate to ask!
